Fish update

I think getting the fish was a big mistake. Lily is just not mature enough to handle it. I don't know if it was related to her sensory disorder or just her immaturity, but she could not keep her hands out of the aquarium. We kept finding her sneaking her arms in the tank, holding the fish in her hands. Once I even caught her with the fish in a cup, out of the tank. Ugh!!!

So, this morning Lily woke me up by saying that something was wrong with her fish. It was swimming upside at the top of the tank and she couldn't get it to flip over. ...sigh...So, I had to get up and find the net. We said a few prayers and watched it as I flushed it. Now the other fish in her tank is not looking well.

I don't think she'll be getting any more pets until she is mature enough to understand how to care for them. Or...until she is on some mood-stabilizing drugs! Whichever happens first.

In the meantime, Lily and I sat down to scrap yesterday afternoon. I opened up my new Scrapbook Circle kit. I felt the need to supplement, so not all of the elements are from the kit, but there were some cool things inside...

Meet our newest family members...

As most of you reading this know, I have some pretty severe allergies. I take meds everyday just so I can breathe freely in my own home. Unfortunately I am allergic to couple of our family members (No....not Jack and the kids...at least not all the time). I am allergic to our two cats: Cleo and Alley. We have been seriously talking about bringing them to a cat farm or a no kill shelter so I can live in my own home without suffering. There are other reasons we are thinking of getting rid of them too...they are getting older, having accidents, waking us up in the middle of the night etc...

However, I don't think that either Jack or I will be able to do it. Even Lily said the other day that she hopes the cats can die in peace at home where they will be comfortable. Pretty deep for a 6 year old, no?

So, in order to help our children prove that they are responsible, and to give them a goal of earning a reward for positive behavior, we started a reward system. The reward for this cycle was a gold fish.

I thought Jack was going to take the kids to the pet store and return with two little glass bowls and a fish in each. However, yesterday he returned with two fresh water aquariums, 2 bags of rocks, so plants and fish food. After running the water through the filters for a few hours, they went back out to choose the fish.

Matt chose some variety of goldfish that will eventually grow to be pretty large. The pet shop employee said that he can only fit one of these in his aquarium without it being too crowded. He was going back and forth about what to name the fish...Silver? Shiny? Slimy? He finally settled on Silvey. Here is Silvey. I think he is going to triple or quadruple in size...
Lily took the term goldfish literally and would only purchase a fish that was gold-colored. She picked out two babies that will not grow much. She named hers Goldilocks and Goldie. Original? Not so much! LOL

The smaller one is Goldilocks. Lily says Goldilocks also has a red birthmark on her tummy. I'm not exactly sure how she knows that.

Welcome to the family guys, or girls...May you not get eaten by our cats and may you keep my children feeling like responsible owners of animals!

Too cute to not share this...

Just had to share this cute photo of Zoey that I took yesterday. She found this hat in Lily's "dress-up clothes" box and put it on. She was walking around the house with it covering her eyes and she was bumping into things. It was so cute!!
Lily wanted to help me create yesterday, so she sat down on my lap as I was about to begin a page using this pic. She wanted to help me pic out the papers and add all the embellies. It's not exactly my typical style, but I love that she helped and she even wanted her name on it as the "creator" ...LOL

That's all for now. Hopping into the pool on this 90+ degree day!!

Baby Sister's 21st

So, my baby sister turned 21 this past week! It's hard to believe. She was only one when Jack and I started dating. It's kind of weird. She has only known me with Jack. Can't believe how time has just flown right by...
We took her out to a Mexican restaurant for margaritas to celebrate and afterwards had some cake...

Lily had a little cake on her face courtesy of her Godmother....

Check out the cake...covered in beer cans and champagne bottles...LOL

Happy 21st, Steff! It's only downhill from here... LOL
On another note, I tried out a new technique this week and can I say...I hated it!!?!?!?!
I saw these cute accordian folded flowers in a magazine and wanted to create them. First of all, I cut them the wrong size, then the glue would not hold them together, then they were too thick (because I made the folds to wide). Ugh! Never again!!! They did turn out pretty though, didn't they?

I've used this layout design before, and I love it!

This one was kind of fun and funky...

Now...off to the pool!
